Ball Jammers make Unit Trust Maloney Pacers sweat

Defending Eastern Communities Basketball League and Knock-out champions, Unit Trust Maloney Pacers got the shock of their lives on Thursday. League newcomers Sweato Ball Jammers fought from the tip-off to the final whistle and were rewarded with a 60-59 win at the Maloney Indoor Sport Arena. Twelve players from both teams were on the scorecard as Sweato declared war on the behemoths from Maloney who were playing on their home court.shared in a match-high 12 points while Kenyatta Alfred put in 10 for Maloney.

Earlier the University of the West Indies basketballers continued their good run in the competition and beat NP Caledonia Clippers 64-55. Mark Adams put in a match-high 28 points and Al Rodney scored 25 for the winning team while Clippers’ Brett Glenville contributed to his team’s total. On Wednesday at the Eastern Regional Sport Facility, Tacarigua Vintage Park Royal beat Sangre Grande Civic Centre Ballers by a convincing ten point margin, 68-58, despite Civic Centre’s Kester Brereton scoring an unmatched match- high 25 points. Colin Cadet was the only other Civic Centre scorer on the card with 13 but 16 from Daren Joseph and 12 from Jason Patterson helped Park Royal Crown themselves kings of the court on the evening.

Rook’s Engineering Warriors were keen to emulate the princely example set in the earlier encounter and match- high 17 points and Hayden Houlder putting in 10 points. Ryan Caesar and Akil La Roche had 12 points each for United. On Tuesday, Macoya Forum beat TSTT 97-82 with TSTT’s Shawn Ryan going one better than Michael Serrette of Forum and scoring the match- high 29 points. Serrette had 28, Dexter Felician put in 19 for TSTT and Akil Paynter had 20 for Forum. In the second match Maloney Old School brought back “de ole time days” and schooled LA Flor Ballers on their way to a 93-69 rout. The competition seemed to come from within the Old School ranks with Anderson Joseph and Andre Murrel each scoring a match- high 19 points. Wayne Richards of La Flor also put in 19 and Hayden Nelson contributed 16. Matches continue today.
