Cricketers to use video footage as coaching aid

The Trinidad and Tobago senior cricket selection panel headed by former national player Dudnath Ramkessoon has met and will name a number of players for specialised training next week. Ramkessoon, the first vice-president of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) told Newsday yesterday that it makes no sense naming a squad to go into preparation for the regional limited overs series right now, as most of the players are out of the country. “We have already met and are trying to seek out the players and their whereabouts so that we can have a meaningful programme,” the former West Indies youth captain said.

“For the time being we have short-listed some players who are here and who we think are in need of specialist training. We will reveal the names of these players next week and they will go into small groups with coaches to improve on their game,” Ramkessoon said. “National coach David Williams and I have already met and he will let me know by next week who are the specialist coaches he is bringing in to work with the guys. What we are going to do is try to utilise the former national cricketers at our disposal,” the former Presentation College, Chaguanas standout said.

Trinidad and Tobago will be looking to win the regional limited overs championship for the first time since 1996 when they defeated Guyana in the final at Bourda. According to Ramkessoon the tournament which is looking for a sponsor will get going sometime in November. “We are trying to ascertain when the tournament will get going exactly so we can plan an effective preparation programme. The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) are still trying to source a sponsor and my information is that the tournament will now be played in November,” the top cricket official said. “In the meantime we are going to identify our players, contact them to find out when they will be available and plan from there,” he said.
