Ma Pau helps Ramnarine fight

Former national kick-boxing queen Ria Ramnarine will step in to the ring on July 31, at the Central Regional Indoor Sports Arena, Chaguanas, to oppose American Deidre Hamaguchi. The long-awaited clash will be for the Women’s International Boxing Assocation (WIBA) Mini-Flyweight Inter-Continental title. The 25-year-old Ramnarine, from the Fine Line Gym in Chaguanas, is ranked ninth by the WIBA while her opponent is seventh. Ramnarine got a financial boost on Monday when she was presented with a $22,000 cheque from the Ma Pau Members Club of Ariapita Avenue, Woodbrook.

In making the presentation, the club’s Public Relations Officer Sherry Persad noted that Ramnarine believes that everything that has happened to her, contributed to making her the fighter that she is today. “Ma Pau is proud to be associated with such determination and drive for success,” Persad said. Ramnarine’s manager-coach Bharath Ramoutar was grateful for the gesture, stating: “Ma Pau has definitely taken the lead as a private enterprise, in helping to provide advertising and marketing expertise as well as the financial contribution necessary to promote an event of this magnitude.” The title card will also feature four supporting kick-boxing bouts involving members of the Fine Line Gym, the Biomel Gym of Arima and the Irvin Rosales School of Kung Fu in San Fernando.
