Businessman George Elias dies

San Fernando businessman George Elias died at his residence, Crichlow Street, Les Efforts East, San Fernando on Friday. He was 92 years old. Elias was born in Lebanon in 1912 and on coming to Trinidad, settled in San Fernando many years ago. He married Annie Moses, who died in 1988. Elias owned and managed the Moses fabric store which is located on High Street, San Fernando. He was the father of Alec, Alfred, Dr Anthony Elias and Emerline Joseph.

He was the brother of late businessman Nagib Elias, Habib, Skander, Skandra, Rogib, Shaffie and Rhoda Abraham, all deceased. Describing his father, Alfred said that Elias loved gardening and walking to work. “He was a kind, gentle man who loved everybody and had customers for years,” Alfred said. His funeral will take place on Tuesday, at 9.30 am from Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Harris Promenade, San Fernando and will proceed to the Paradise Cemetery for interment.
