No ransom paid

Kidnapped Tunapuna businessman Dominic Kalloo was released at BelleSmythe Street, Curepe on Saturday at midnight, after spending five days with his kidnappers. His relatives said yesterday that no ransom was paid. Reports revealed that around midnight on Saturday, Kalloo,19, was dropped off in Curepe and made his way to his parents’ home in Curepe. He was greeted by relatives who did not expect to see Kalloo walking through the yard a free man around 1.30 am yesterday. A relative who identified herself only as Vanessa told Newsday that Kalloo was kept blindfolded at all times, and was not aware of where he had been kept. She said that he was not beaten.

Kalloo was treated by a doctor and was resting at his Tunapuna home yesterday. He was interviewed by officers of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad yesterday. Relatives of the freed kidnap victim said yesterday that they are happy to have Kalloo back home. They called on the relatives of Vijay Persad and Rodney Deosaran, two kidnap victims, to never give up hope and continue praying. Kalloo was kidnapped on Tuesday morning while leaving for his Curepe business place. On Tuesday night, the kidnappers telephoned Kalloo’s grandmother and demanded a $1 million ransom for his safe release.

Relatives claimed that it was a case of mistaken identity and added that they were heavily in debt and could not pay any ransom. Up until yesterday, police investigators received no new leads into the kidnapping of 11-year-old Vijay Persad and Rodney Deosaran. Police believe that Vijay may have been killed by his abductors, while they believe that Deosaran is alive. AKS officers believe that if they can locate the mastermind behind the kidnapping of Deosaran, they may be able to rescue him. Both investigations are being carried out by officers of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad.
