Hero honoured at London bash
WEST INDIES cricket captain Brian Lara was honoured by the Trinidad and Tobago High Commission, London on Sunday at a reception at the headquarters of the Foreign Press Association in the English capital. TT’s High Commissioner Glenda Morean-Phillip presented a plaque to the star batsman for his record breaking innings of 400 not out against England in the Fourth Test in Antigua last April. He was also honoured for his commitment, dedication and service to West Indies cricket. Morean-Phillip also made a presentation to the West Indies Cricket Board to mark their 75 years.
Manager of the West Indies team, Tony Howard received the plaque on behalf of the WICB. In a brief address to the large audience, Lara said the young team is improving and he considers the defeat against New Zealand as an abberation. He promised to lead West Indies to victory in the upcoming Test series against England which gets underway on July 22 at Lord’s. Tobago Crusoe, former National Calypso Monarch composed a song on the West Indies victory over England in their One-Day International last Tuesday and he sang another one on Lara’s record-breaking feat. Calypsonian D’Aberto and Ebony Steelband also performed for guests including High Commisioners from the Caribbean, Cuba and New Zealand.
