Crabs overtake Lions
L-SPORTO Crab Connection overtook “the Eastern Lions” Joe Public for the lead in the National Super League after an action-packed round of matches on Tuesday. The Crabs trounced third-placed WASA Clean and White 5-2 at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima while Joe Public’s unbeaten run came to an end when they were handed a 3-1 licking by Biwater Stokelyvale at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Tunapuna. Crabs were never in trouble against the WASA men, as Kirston Graham (15th and 24th) and Marlon Warner (38th and 70th) put them 4-0 ahead before Daleon Sinnette got WASA on the scoresheet in the 79th. Irvin Trim netted Connection’s fifth in the 89th time but Sinnette again found the target a minute later.
Stokelyvale have never really seemed threating this season, but they produced their best performance to silence the pro-Joe Public crowd at Tunapuna. Kerron Phillips opened the scoring for the Tobagonians in the 21st minute while Warren Phillips doubled the lead with a 44th minute penalty. Curtis Job got Stokelyvale’s third in the 64th but Brian Wallace netted the consolation strike for the hosts in the 68th. Police remained in third spot despite a goalless draw against Maraval Youth Academy at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella while, in the second game of the doubleheader, Club Sando, with a double from Darren Carter (49th and 65th), eased past Harvard 2-0.
Another big winner on the day was Medianet East San Juan United, who crushed the winless Carib outfit 4-0 at the Mt Hope Junior Secondary School Ground. Michael Waldron notched a double, in the 41st and 60th minutes, while Allan Sorzano (34th) and Bobinton King (78th) got one apiece. Kenyon Manswell got a late winner, in the 87th minute, as Angostura 1976 FC Phoenix edged Caroni 1-0 at Brechin Castle, Couva while, in the day’s other encounter, Jason Charles netted a 53rd minute penalty for Superstar Rangers to ensure a 1-1 draw against Moruga at the Otis Memorial Park, Moruga. Stephen Brereton had given Moruga the initiative after eight minutes before Charles stepped up big for Rangers.
