Abortion Lies
During my 20-odd years as a pastor, I have seen the hurt, despair, trauma, physical affliction and massive psychological devastation of victims of abortion... I know something about the culprits. On July 3, this column strongly condemned the abortion trade and those who are ASPIRING to have it legalised. This writer labelled the whole thing “a ruthless racket,” charging that those involved are “criminal perpetrators” and “sick barbarous minds” whose basic interest is “blood money.” In plain, uncompromising language, I also accused the pro-abortion group of attempting to deceive the public through a campaign of “lies, hypocrisy, treachery and duplicitous tactics”(Remember Christ also had to use words like “hypocrites and vipers” in dealing with certain culprits — Matthew 23). My closing paragraph read in part, “With all their angel-of-light euphemisms and code languages, they (ASPIRE) team up with their butcher doctor friends who sharpen their knives, quoting all kinds of phoney statistics, while advocating the slaughter of innocents, so they can further fatten their pockets and bank accounts with blood money... That’s why this vampire called ASPIRE must expire, without having one single drop of blood from our innocent children.”
One week later, July 10, our newspapers flashed the headlines, “Trinidad-born Doctor Says Abortion Driven By Greed” and “Gynaecologist Says Abortion is Billion-dollar Business.” These headlines captioned accounts given by Dr Moreen Johnson, a Trinidad-born Texas-based obstetrician/gynaecologist and former director of an abortion clinic in Los Angeles. Johnson related her experience at a news conference at the Emmanuel Centre, Woodbrook, hosted by the Lawyers for Jesus Coalition for Life. In exposing the lies, hypocrisy, treachery and duplicitous tactics of abortionists, Dr Johnson said, “If a doctor could not find a woman who willingly wanted to abort, they targeted those who became pregnant through rape and incest... Unlike other procedures, the abortion procedure was not described to the patient, because if a woman looks at the nature of the procedure, she probably will not want to go through with it. The nature of the abortion is very, very ugly.” The abortionists, she said, commit “the crime of murder,” by referring to the baby in the womb as merely “a blob of tissue.”
Commenting on what yours truly calls “the angel-of-light code languages and euphemisms of the sick, barbarous minds,” the ex-abortionist related: “Doctors performing abortions try to disassociate themselves from the psychological trauma of killing a baby and rationalise their actions as helping a woman out of distress. It is better for him to see himself as a proponent of woman’s rights, so now we hear about ‘reproductive rights’.” On the question of fattening their pockets and bank accounts with blood money, the now deeply remorseful doctor confessed, “Abortion is a multi-million dollar industry that is driven by greed. I was able to augment my income by US$70,000 (TT440,000) by doing about 30 abortions a week.”
Johnson also revealed that the abortion industry was perhaps the only industry where patients paid “up front,” without seeing a doctor. She explained that abortions done in the second and third trimester of pregnancy made the pockets and bank accounts of the bloody butchers much fatter. “The later you do them, the more money you make.” As far as lies and phoney statistics of the “vampire” elements were concerned, President of the Coalition for Life in Texas, Dr Dave Berit, (who shared the news conference with Dr Johnson) said that ASPIRE “was duping the people of TT.” He quipped, “Question everything ASPIRE says. If they say something, tell them to prove it.”
Now, remember all of what Dr Johnson and Dr Berit have said came one week after my July 3 column. Several persons, wondering how my statements could so precisely match Drs Johnson’s and Berit’s, have asked me if I had any prior contact with the doctors. The answer is no. However, in doing my homework, I did interview abortionists and ex-abortionists from abroad and former abortionists locally. The main source of my information and conviction though, has been my first hand dealings with hundreds of women who were the victims of the brutal, criminal act of abortion, and scores of others, whom I have been able to save from the slaughter dens of the baby butchers. This has happened over the past two decades-plus, in my role as pastor and counsellor. As I emphatically noted in that famous (or is it infamous?) column on July 3, “In dealing with the abortion problem, attention also has to be given to social issues, family life, economic and spiritual factors and related areas.” As a church, this is what we are deeply involved in.
So over the past 20-odd years, I have seen the hurt, despair, trauma, physical afflictions and massive psychological devastation of victims of abortion. I know something about the culprits behind the bucthery. Many of the victims with whom I interacted, did not have the procedure done by backyard abortionists, but trained medical doctors. I have had to empathise and “suffer” along with them, to see them through. Several of them have become sterile, doomed to the extremely painful life of a childless future. I have had to counsel scores of pregnant women out of having abortions, showing them how they could, with our help through support systems, overcome the difficult challenges and lead fulfilled lives.
They have all been abundantly thankful to me and other ministers and counsellors of our church. This is a norm for Pentecostal/Evangelical churches locally and abroad. As Dr Johnson remarked, “Women are completely dehumanised in abortion... Abortion pulls a society down into the depths of degradation.” We in the Church say that it’s time for women to cease allowing themselves to be used and exploited as some kind of guinea pig object in somebody’s bloodthirsty greed for filthy lure. Women, rise up and reclaim your dignity!
