George, Collymore, Thom ink new records
SOBEENA GEORGE, Ayeisha Collymore and Orlando Thom each set national records as the National Long Course Swimming Championships continued on Saturday night at the Marlins Swim Pool, Westmoorings. George, from host club Marlins, won the girls 15-and-over 50-metre breaststroke in 35.88 seconds while Ayeisha Collymore of Blue Dolphins was next in 35.98, both times below the previous standard set by George (36.23) in December 2002. Zahra De Four was third in Saturday’s final in 41.76.
Collymore later erased the girls 15-and-over 100m backstroke record of one minute 10.20 seconds set by Patricia Bartlett in December 1980 when she touched the wall first in 1:10.04, ahead of fellow Blue Dolphins’ Renee Pouchet 1:13.18 and Donna Wickham of Tidal Wave 1:14.72. And Orlando Thom of Tidal Wave clocked 30.77 as he copped gold in the boys’ 15-and-over 50m breaststroke, a new national mark over the distance for boys 18-and-over. Ronson Hackshaw, who held the previous time of 32.91, was second in 33.89 while fellow Marlins’ Mark Ryan Talma followed in 33.92.
