Chamber praises army for recovery of rifle
The Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Industry and Commerce yesterday congratulated the army on the recovery of the Galil assault rifle within days of its disappearance from Camp Ogden. The Chamber noted in a release, “The timeliness and efficiency with which this crime was solved supports the fact that cooperation between the army and the Police Service can result in immediate action.
“Intelligence gathering from the criminal underworld and the army’s complete lockdown of a number of areas, in this case, proved to be effective methods which resulted in the retrieval of the weapon,” the release added. “We urge the army and the Police Service to work together to share their resources and knowledge, so that all crimes, especially those involving missing persons and not only missing weapons, will be solved swiftly.
“Perhaps it is only through their coordinated efforts that Trinidad and Tobago will realise a reduction in murders, kidnappings and arms and drugs smuggling,” the Chamber added. The Chamber also appealed to the kidnappers to release ten-year-old Vijay Persad and Rodney Deosaran to their families. “We implore members of the public to look within their consciences, and if anyone has information which could lead to their safe return, please contact Crime Stoppers at 800-TIPS.
