APPROXIMATELY $100,000 will be on offer as the inaugural T&T Pro League Pro Bowl competition kicks off from 6 pm today with doubleheaders at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella and the Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima. At Marabella, W Connection will square off against Tobago United at six o’clock while Starworld Strikers will face South West Drillers two hours later. The semi-finals will take place on Friday July 30 and the final on August 6, all at the Larry Gomes Stadium. The draw was made at the Pro League’s new office at Valpark Shopping Plaza, Valsayn, with League’s Chief Executive Officer Dexter Skeene stating that “this competition is part of the league’s on-going commitment to being innovative and to improving the product that we deliver and to encourage community support.
“This is an incentive meant to motivate the clubs to be more pro-active in their communities and mobilise their spectator base,” he continued. The former national midfielder revealed that “the league is also doing its part to encourage participation of the communities by having several competitions.” Among the spectator attractions are the Unit Trust skills competition, a rhythm section competition, giveaways and door prizes. Also speaking at the launch was Lincoln “Tiger” Phillips, technical director of the national football team, who noted that the move was a good idea in the promotion of football in Trinidad and Tobago.
