Maple edge Malvern in NFA

MAPLE won the battle of the “long time” top teams of local football, edging Malvern 3-2 in the latest round of matches in the Media 21-sponsored Northern Football Association Premier League. Hyron Browne-Baptiste with his second goal in three matches, opened the scoring for “The Government,” as Maple were known in the glory days, and Shayne Chang and Mali Quamina added further goals for the winners. Jabari Samuel and Mark Pierre got goals for the Woodbrook “Glamour Boys.”

But champions St Francois Nationals, after dropping a point in the opening round, kept on course with a 4-1 hammering of Maraval Youth Academy, with Marlon Bowen getting a hat-trick and ex-Strike Squad midfielder Marlon Morris the other goal. John Gonzales got the consolation. And last season’s runners-up Superstar Rangers kept pace with a 3-1 victory over Paragon. Damian Villafana, Anthony Peters and Roger Prince got goals for Rangers, while Jeffrey Stewart scored for Paragon.
