Nixon makes N/East Stars shine
NORTH EAST Stars returned to the top of the T&T Pro League with a 2-1 win over CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella. National striker Jerren Nixon scored a pair of penalties in Wednesday night’s match for the Sangre Grande-based Stars, in the 37th and 52nd minutes, while midfielder Trent Noel pulled one back for Jabloteh in the 73rd. After 14 matches, Stars are on top the standings with 30 points, with W Connection second on 29 points and Starworld Strikers one point back in third spot.
Like North East, Connection earned their ninth win of the season, defeating Arima/Morvant Fire 4-2 at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva. Striker Bevon Lewis got a double for Connection, in the 35th and 44th minutes, while Jason Cudjoe (11th) and Luciano Jose Viera (53rd) added one a piece. National midfielder Densil Theobald (50th) and Ryan Stewart (66th) were on target for Fire. In the day’s other encounter, Defence Force recorded a comfortable 3-0 triumph over South West Drillers at the Palo Seco Recreation Ground, with strikes from Christon Baptiste (50th), Kurt Williams (58th) and Kenrick Saunders (75th).
