Wanderers tipped for Club of the Year title

W-Connection Wanderers are heavily tipped to take the “Club of the Year” title when the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) host their 48th annual prize giving ceremony at Centre Pointe Mall, Chaguanas from 5 pm. Wanderers won the Carib National league Division Twocrown as well as the Carib Cup and the Noel Guillen U-21 competition. They also finished runners-up to First Citizens Clarke Road United in the Fruta Twenty/20 Cup. Giving them a close run for the crown will however be Clarke Road United who won the prestigious Carib National League Division OneI crown for the first time in their history. West Indies captain Brian Lara who reclaimed his world record Test score with 400 not out against England at Antigua is sure to be named “Cricketer of the Year” for yet another time.

Last year he did likewise after his excellent batting performances against Australia and Sri Lanka. The National League “Cricketer of the Year” title is a toss up between Clarke Road’s off-spinner Mukesh Persad and Ceramic Merryboys batsman Lendl Simmons. Persad who grabbed 48 wickets in the league —  just one short of the record held by Rangy Nanan who got 49 in 1986 for Preysal —  is out front at the moment. Chairman of the South East Zonal Cricket Council, Azim Bassarath who is now an executive member is expected to be named “Administrator of the Year” after his excellent work as chairman of the Regional Matches Committee.
