‘Keeper Jack aborts Oldham bid
LONDON: Trinidad and Tobago’s football goalkeeper Kelvin Jack is leaving his stint with Oldham Athletics after failing to agree on terms for a contract. Oldham manager Brian Talbot’s search for a back-up goalkeeper to Les Pogliacomi will continue after the club failed to agree a deal with Jack after his trial stint. Jack spent last week with Latics appearing in the pre-season friendlies against Newcastle Town and Leeds United and looked impressive in both outings.
“He did very well to be fair in the two matches he played, he couldn’t have done a lot more,” Talbot said. He admitted that Jack has the quality of a first-string goalkeeper and they were unable to secure his services at a price they could afford. “While it would be nice to have two ‘keepers of a number one standard, finances dictate things and we were unable to agree terms with Kelvin,” Talbot added. The Latics boss has already lined up another goalkeeper, the Irish 24-year-old David Forde, who was released by West Ham. Vincentian Rodney Jack and Jamaican Jermaine Johnson were standouts for the Latics in their games against Newcastle and Leeds and in their latest pre-season match, they got two goals from Grenada international Jason Roberts to defeat Bury 4-0.
