Perkins hits 93 as TT win again

KINGSTON: Reigning champions Trinidad and Tobago recorded their second straight win in the TCL Group West Indies Youth Challenge Limited Overs Series  with a comprehensive 72-run win against the Americas at Elletson Road yesterday. Batting first, Trinidad and Tobago led by half-centuries from opening batsman William Perkins and the left-handed Manoj Sirju chalked up a huge 255 for three from 50 overs  against their opponents and then restricted the Americas to 183 all out in 41 overs. Perkins figured in two important partnerships. He added 89 with the first wicket with Samuel Felix who made 34, and 82 for the second wicket with Sirju.

Perkins’ effortless 112-ball innings contained 12 boundaries, while Sirju cracked four sixes and three fours from 47 deliveries. Nearing the end of the innings, Jason Mohammed notched a quickfire unbeaten 41. In reply, the Americas were undermined by the spin of left-armers Rishi Bachan and Magnum Nanan and folded well short of the target. Bachan picked up three for 19, and Nanan two for 36, while off-spinner Mohammed had two for 39.  Only Ali Shafi with an unbeaten 68 from 104 balls including four fours and two sixes showed resistance. TT will play Guyana today at Chedwin Park, while the Americas face the Windward Islands at Port Esquivel.
