Criticism from a hopeless failure

THE EDITOR: I have noticed a letter in your newspaper written by Garvin Nicholas where he criticised Minister Imbert with respect to the road problem at Clovis Trace in Maraval. You may not be aware, but Garvin Nicholas was the defeated UNC candidate for Diego Martin East in the 2002 General Elections, and Mr Imbert beat him in that election by a margin of 7,000 votes. His letter therefore is just an expression of sour grapes. Garvin Nicholas was also the PNM councillor for Maraval area before he jumped ship to the UNC, and he only won his local Government seat because Mr Imbert asked the people of Maraval to vote for him. This turned out to be a big mistake because during his tenure as a local government representative he totally neglected and ignored the people of Maraval.

The Clovis Trace road was his responsibility, but over the four year period from 1992 to 1996, he didn’t lift a finger to help the residents. And soon after his term as a councillor expired, he left the country. In my opinion, he was a hopeless failure as a councillor, since he spent all of this time complaining, rather than doing the people’s work. He pretends to be a grassroots man, but he is really only interested in the bright lights, and it is shameful of him now, after having failed to help residents of Clovis Trace, to have the brass face to pretend that he has any interest in the welfare of the people of Maraval.
