Dangerous parking on Ali Street
THE EDITOR: I am a resident of Ali Street, Pasea village, Tunapuna. Ali Street is located just before the Churchill Roosevelt Highway on the left hand side of Pasea Main Road. Situated at the corner of Pasea Main Road and Churchill Roosevelt Highway is UWI Institute of Business. Students of IOB park regularly on Ali Street and alongside Centenary Street and this poses a threat since Ali Street is the final exit to the Churchill Roosevelt Highway and many vehicles frequently use this route. While Ali Street can accommodate two cars at any one time, it becomes difficult for three cars to occupy the road on a regular basis. In addition, the students park alongside the corner of Ali Street and Centenary Street and this could cause a serious accident since it is a blind corner.
However, it is more advisable to park at the end of Centenary Street and the Churchill Roosevelt Highway since it is a dead end. I have spoken to the management of IOB on various occasions and was told that free parking is available to the students on the compound of the Tunapuna Hindu School. I have also made numerous complaints to the Tunapuna police about the situation. Due to the hazard experienced from time to time, the residents of Ali Street can no longer walk freely on the street and are afraid to let their children out of their gates. It is always very congested. It has become difficult for relatives and friends to visit residents of this street since there are no parking available at any given time. Sometimes it is difficult even to get in and out of your gateway. Could someone please inform what steps could be taken to correct this situation as it seems not in the interest of the police to address it until probably a serious accident occurs.
