Singh — St Mary’s ‘Player of Year’

All-rounder Randy Singh copped the “Player of the Year” title when St Mary’s Superstars held their annual prize giving ceremony at the St Mary’s Government School, Moruga on Sunday. Singh had some impressive performances with both bat and ball and beat off a close challenge by fellow all-rounder Desmond Mohammed for the prestigious award. His best batting of the season was a fine 144 and overall he scored the most runs for St Mary’s during the past season. The other four “Cricketers of the Year” were Mohammed, brothers Zahid and Faoud Bassarath and Clifton Gomez. Faoud Bassarath also enjoyed a memorable year taking the first five-wicket haul for the season as well as being named “Club Member of the Year”.

Top officials of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) attended the function with the feature address delivered by first vice-president of the TTCB, Dudnath Ramkeesoon. He outlined a route to success for the youths of the club with an address that captivated the gathering. ”If you don’t know where you are going, then how are you going to get there? You all must set goals and write them down, ever so often refreshing your mind with the goal at hand. You have to set goals and put plans in place in order to reach there. These are daily goals, weekly goals, seasonal goals and career goals. Once you focus on what you want to achieve you would find that getting their is not impossible,” Ramkeesoon said.

Second vice-president of the Zone, Baldath Mahabir in his message said that he likes to call the current crime scenario in Trinidad and Tobago a “reverse zoo”. “When you go to the zoo the more intelligent creatures are outside looking in at the others that are caged. Now in Trinidad and Tobago the five percent of criminals are keeping the good and intelligent citizens locked away in their homes behind bars. You youngsters here today must keep on the good side and set high goals. Have a clear vision of what you want to achieve because without it you would perish,” Mahabir said. The Member of Parliament for Princes Town Nizam Baksh encouraged participation in  meaningful sports. He said the Trinidad and Tobago Hotel School will soon be commissioning an office in the south and those willing can go to the school and pursue there preferred courses.
