Army shoot down Arrows in b-ball
DEFENCE FORCE were taken to the final buzzer by Republic Bank Arrows before prevailing 89-83 in their First Division North Zone Basketball League match at the St Paul Street Sports Facility on Wednesday. The Army-Coast Guard combination led 26-14, but saw their advantage reduced to 45-35 at the half-time break. The Arrows further closed the lead to 59-54 at the end of the third period and it was game on in the final stanza. But thanks in great measure to Mervyn Headley who scored 16 points and 14 points each from Vincent Wilt and Dennison Charles, Defence Force held on.
Gamal Patrick scored a game high 26 points and Orlando Mapp, 17 for Arrows. In the second match of the double header, Detour Shak Attack ripped Royal Extra Lions 114-86. Shak Attack moved at a furious pace and held 33-26; 66-41 and 84-61 at the end of the quarter stages. Terrance Myers led the Attack with 28 points, including six three-pointers and Kevin Blugh had 21 and Kenneth Hinds 18. The Lions were led by David Burton with 23 points and Ronald Hernandez and Kendell Hagley got 22 points apiece.
