T&T, Guyana lose 2nd day
KINGSTON: For a second straight day, not a ball was bowled in the Zone “B” top-of-the-table clash between joint leaders, Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana, in the third and final preliminary round of the TCL Group West Indies Under-19 three-day cricket challenge yesterday. A wet pitch and outfield caused by the heavy rains associated with the passage of Hurricane Charley made it impossible to have play and, after several inspections by the umpires, a decision to call it off came around 3 pm.
The match was reduced to a two-day affair after Charley forced the organisers to abandon the first day on Wednesday because of heavy thunder showers and heavy rain. The country was also placed on a storm alert on Wednesday. The two teams will at least seek to duke it out for first innings points on the final day of the match today, weather permitting. Both teams have 32 points from two outright victories against Bermuda and Leeward Islands. Officials of the Jamaica Cricket Assocition have indicated that if the points tally at the end of the preliminaries are the same, run rate will determine which team heads the group.
Summarised scores: WINDWARD ISLANDS 195- Andre Fletcher 35, Jean Paul 30, Ronald Etienne 27, Russell Emmanuel 24, Roy Williams 3/29, Wayne Morgan 2/23, Dennis Bulli 2/34 vs JAMAICA 95/3 - Xavier Marshall 59, Javon Samuel 2/42.
REST OF AMERICAS 156 - Ali Shafi 32, Akil Pathan 29, Jasjet Mangat 29, Gibran Rahaman 27, Ruel Brathwaite 4/42, Barrington Yearwood 2/28, Steve Pinder 2/32 vs BARBADOS 54/5 - Orman Kellman 21, Akil Pathan 2/17.
LEEWARD ISLANDS 262/7 - Justin Athanaze 70, Montcin Hodge 61, Akito Willett 41, Chad Hamson 28, Dion Stovell 3/71, Derek Brangman 2/49 vs BERMUDA.
