Kickboxers want help
The National Kickboxing Council of Trinidad and Tobago (NKCTT) are seeking sponsorship to send representatives to the International Kickboxing Competition to be held in New Jersey, USA on September 4 and 5. According to team coordinator Padma Bhual Ali, the council have already raised $15,000 and have written to Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs Roger Boynes for help. “The youths have been involved in both national and Caribbean kick-boxing competitions for close to 12 years. And this is an opportunity to showcase the talent we have in kickboxing at this major international event,” she said.
The council are also calling on the business community to assist in sending the team to the US. Ali assured the media that having received training from US graduate in kickboxing and martial arts Brandon Burke the youths are ready for combat. The combatants also received assistance from Rodney Ramlal, the undefeated super featherweight kick-boxing champion, ranked ninth in the world of professional kick-boxing. Selected to participate in the international contest are: Carlene Lewis, V Sooknanan, Adisa Samuel, Errol Lewis, Samuel Goddard, Wendell Jokhi, Sherwin Slyvester, Kenroy Wilson, Sirochan Dhani, Ryan George, Marlon Taylor, Devon Ramkallawan, Naleini Deonarine, Connel Straker and Nicholas Chance. They are currently preparing for the event at the Lion’s Muay-Thai Kick-Boxing Gym in Princes Town under the watchful eyes of Burke.
