TT U-17 footballers crush St Lucia 8-1
STRIKER Kyle McIvor notched a hat-trick as Trinidad and Tobago trounced St Lucia 8-1 in their opening Group A match of the Caribbean Football Union first round World Cup qualifiers at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Bacolet, Tobago. The crowd at the sister isle venue watched a totally one-sided game on Wednesday night, which came on the heels of a narrow 1-0 victory by Barbados over Bahamas two hours earlier. With TT holding a comfortable 5-1 lead, McIvor, a nimble-footed QRC striker completed St Lucia’s misery. He found the nets in the 71st, again in the 76th and finally in the 81st minutes.
Nyron Orr, a Roxborough Composite student opened the scoring in the 3rd minute to the delight of the Tobagonian fans. Fellow midfielder Silas Spann, brother of Trinidad and Tobago senior midfielder Silvio doubled the lead after 19 minutes. And exciting midfield supremo Shastri Spencer of St Augustine Senior Comprehensive made it 3-0 in the 22nd minute before Caddius Emmanuel pulled one back for the St Lucian lads in the 30th. Trinidad and Tobago skipper Javed Mohammed of Naparima restored the Trinidad and Tobago three-goal lead in the 38th minute before Orr got his second on the stroke of half-time. Action continues in the series today with another double-header, this time St Lucia meeting Barbados from 5 pm, and Trinidad and Tobago taking on Bahamas from 7 pm.
