Indians do not deserve Cro Cro’s rancid attacks

THE EDITOR: Women Against Racism and Dictatorship (WARD)  strongly condemns the latest expression of animosity directed at the Indian community by the hostile calypsonian Cro Cro at a performance last weekend. In true begrudging style, Cro Cro persisted in heaping more scorn on Indians as he ranted in his croaky voice: “Doh trust no Indian.”
 
In view of  the present state of our beloved nation, with violent crime out of control and the cost of living sky-rocketing daily, with fear stalking our land and desperation seeping into all strata of society, WARD firmly believes that the negative influence of Cro Cro and his racist agenda is the last thing we need now, as we race (no pun intended) toward a Haiti type scenario. That Cro Cro’s anti-Indian dogma and conviction, under the guise of entertainment and culture,  is aided and supported by the ruling regime and its undiscerning followers is major cause for concern.

WARD is also alarmed, that at the very same concert, Cro Cro once again promoted and glorified the heinous crime of kidnapping much to the jubilation of the crowd. With ten- year-old kidnap victim Vijay Persad still not found after 60 days and many kidnapped victims having lost their lives, Cro Cro’s call to “ kidnap them” is just as despicable and callous now as it was back in February when he first spewed these ungodly words.

The Indo population, which is now the largest ethnic group in our nation, has devotedly served and built our nation over the last 159 years. Indian Trinidadians have reached the highest levels of human endeavour worldwide and have excelled in many fields such as medicine, science, law, industry and commerce, education, culture, sport and politics and their immense contribution, sacrifices, and sheer hard work have all contributed in putting our twin islands on the world scene. Indians certainly do not deserve these rancid attacks from calypsonians like Cro Cro and Sugar Aloes. This unjustified injustice as perpetrated by Cro Cro has gone on for far too long and the line that he crossed years ago has warped and  turned into a dark, ominous blot on our nation’s soul.

WARD also vehemently condemns the behaviour of the partisan crowd who, while allowing Cro Cro and company to spit fire unscathed, never permitted those in oppositon like Massive Gosine, to respond and expound, resorting to the indecent practice of booing and throwing toilet paper. While other prominent citizens and groups have remained mute on this,  WARD  believes that enough is enough, and bravely states, without fear of contradiction, that the behaviour and agenda of Cro Cro is uncivilised and unholy, not  withstanding how much he may call the Almighty’s name in vain and quote scriptures. We, therefore, will continue to resist  these attacks against the Indo community, speaking out at every opportunity. In conclusion WARD brands Cro Cro a racist and condemns his anti-Indian rantings!
