Top cricket officials for St Kitts meeting

BASSETERRE: St Kitts and Nevis will host Venue Summit III in preparation for the ICC World Cup West Indies 2007 and a meeting of the 2007 World Cup cricket board next month. Charles Wilkin, chairman of World Cup St Kitts and Nevis, revealed that 60 top cricket officials were expected to visit St Kitts for the two meetings.

“Venue Summit III is the first summit to be held since the selection of venues for the World Cup,” Wilkin said. “Previous summits in St Lucia and Barbados dealt with the bidding process for the selection of venues,” he said. “This is an indication of the high esteem in which St Kitts and Nevis is held as a new international cricket venue.” He said representatives of the eight Caribbean countries selected to host matches in the 2007 World Cup were scheduled to meet with officials of the International Cricket Council and ICC World Cup WI 2007 Inc., on September 29, to discuss operational matters and preparations for the event.

Wilkin said a 2007 World Cup board meeting on September 30 would follow Venue Summit III. World Cup 2007 Inc is the subsidiary of the West Indies Cricket Board, which is organising the event. The ICC World Cup is the third largest sporting event in the world behind the Olympics and the FIFA World Cup.
