Scotland, Glen recalled for W/Cup qualifiers
STRIKERS Jason Scotland and Cornell Glen were recalled to the national football team for the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers against St Kitts/Nevis on September 4 and Mexico four days later. Both Scotland, of Dundee in Scotland, and Glen, who plays for New York/New Jersey Metrostars in the MLS (Major League Soccer), were absent from the Trinidad and Tobago 2-0 victory over St Vincent, at the Arnos Vale Playing Field, in the CONCACAF semi-final round Group C game on August 18.
Goalkeepers Kelvin Jack (Dundee United) and Clayton Ince (Crewe Alexandra) also return to the fold after they (as well as Scotland) were unavailable for the St Vincent match. Jack and Ince replace Under-23 keepers Daurance Williams and Jan-Michael Williams, who played in TT’s last two games, against Guatemala and the Vincentians. Glen suffered an ankle injury during the 4-1 loss to Guatemala, in Guatemala City, on August 11. Stern John and Errol McFarlane Jr who scored the goals at Arnos Vale, are the other strikers included in the 18-member squad. With captain Angus Eve suspended after two yellow cards to his name, English-born play-maker Andre Boucaud makes a return after a two-month absence, while midfielder Densil Theobald replaces defender Keyeno Thomas.
Also omitted from the lineup is forward Scott Sealy, who has returned to start his final semester at Wake Forest University in the US. With the foreign-based players expected to return home on Sunday and Monday, head coach Bertille St Clair will hold a full scale training session Monday evening at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo.
Squad: Clayton Ince, Kelvin Jack (goalkeepers); Marlon Rojas, Derek King, Marvin Andrews, Dennis Lawrence, Brent Sancho, Kenwyne Jones (defenders); Silvio Spann, Densil Theobald, Brent Rahim, Andre Boucaud, Arnold Dwarika, Anthony Rougier (midfielders); Jason Scotland, Stern John, Errol McFarlane Jr, Cornell Glen (strikers).
