Young people perishing before our eyes

THE EDITOR: We are living in times of violence, kidnapping, rapes and domestic disputes in homes where children no longer have respect for their elders, not even the law of the land. As Shorty-I sang in one of his songs, “how this country get so angry overnight?” I am trying to come up with some answers and this is my perception.

With the evidence that is all around us, there is no vision towards our future generation and without a vision, the people perish. As you can see, this is what is happening now as you are reading this letter. Our young people are perishing right before our very own eyes because of the lack of fathering and no one to care for them. Long ago, you would find that older persons would say everyone were parents in their days. Now every man is for himself, men have become lovers of themselves.

Instead of watching our neighbour’s house, it is now easier to break into it. We could have parked our cars and feel comfortable, now mobilisers and alarms are no use . . . a car gone. Selfishness has now taken over the minds of men. It’s as though their hearts are hardened against doing what is right. Their own pleasure has taken over their minds and there is no limit as to where pleasing themselves are concerned. I want to feel good, so although all these people are on this beach, that does not matter and sex is taking place right in front of our eyes.

A place where our family can go and have fun is now reserved for pornography. This is what our country is becoming, a lawless nation in which the law has no impact. But we as parents, especially the fathers, can start restructuring this land by being good and godly role models to our children. By being examples by the lifestyle we carry on and foundation we set before them. Let it be a godly lifestyle and a strong foundation. Remember ‘charity begins at home.’
