Baugh batters US in one-dayer
KINGSTON: Wicketkeeper/ batsman Carlton Baugh, omitted from the West Indies team for the upcoming ICC Champions’ Trophy in England, slammed a 38-ball, unbeaten 66 as a Jamaica Select Team beat the United States by seven wickets in a high scoring, rain-affected, limited-overs match at Melbourne Oval on Sunday. Baugh clobbered four sixes and five fours in an innings that propelled the Jamaica Select Team to a Duckworth/Lewis adjusted target of 299 for three in 34.1 overs, after the United States had earlier reached 279 for five in 39 overs.
Baugh shared a 102-run partnership for the third wicket with Danza Hyatt, who top-scored with 96 off 92 balls, including three sixes and nine fours, while Young Jamaica batsman Xavier Marshall hammered a cameo 59 from 60 balls including eight fours and two sixes. Earlier, Mark Johnson hit 91 and Rohan Alexander scored 62, both former Young Jamaica players, got the United States off to a rousing start as they shared 162 for the first wicket. The United States are using the series of matches in Jamaica as a warm-up for the ICC Champions’ Trophy that begins in September.
