Heroic act by Private Reyes
THE EDITOR: Out of an abundance of gratitude and a heart full of deep appreciation I pen this important correspondence. Private Russell Reyes attached to Camp Ogden must be singled out for a special award that I know the God I serve would give. This “true soldier” responded to my distress call as though I was his mother. With tearful eyes and a thankful heart I publicly declare that our society is still in the hands of a ready and capable Army. Private Reyes must be commended for his heroic act, on August 29, 2004. He, beyond the call of duty, chased and apprehended a thief who snatched my priceless handbag with the most precious documents and valuable contents therein.
He further spent the entire afternoon with me sorting the matter with the police at both the San Juan and Barataria Police Stations. Hats off also to the police officers on duty at the San Juan Police Station who were able to retrieve the most important contents of my bag. To Cpl Greenidge who patiently did the paper work as well I say a special thank you! As a society we win some and lose some, but I could testify to the fact that there are members of our Defence Force and Police Service who are indeed working and must be treated with respect. I now extend God’s richest blessings to you Private Russell Reyes #9522 and to those of you who admirably assisted me in my distress.
