Fire blaze Connection 2-0

ARIMA/MORVANT Fire recorded a 2-0 victory over W Connection in the lone T&T Pro League senior division encounter at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima on Thursday. But the eight-team standings remain the same, with Connection on second spot with 32 points while Fire is in position six with 24 points. Forward Ashford Legerton opened the scoring for the hosts in the 56th minute while defensive midfielder Ramould Aguillera got the other item four minutes later. But Connection’s Under-20 team overtook CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh for the top spot after both teams earned contrasting wins, also on Thursday.

At the Larry Gomes Stadium’s Training Field, Connection trounced Fire 6-2 while Jabloteh were whipped 2-0 by North East Stars at the Sangre Grande Recreation Ground. Kennedy Hinkson opened up the match with a quick pair of goals, in the 15th and 18th, while Leesson Quashie (35th) put Connection 3-0 ahead at the halftime interval. Keremme Goddard pulled back one for Fire in the 51st before the Connection youths regained the ascendancy, with strikes from Hughton Hector in the 63rd and Dwight Scott two minutes later. Devon Modeste got Fire’s second goal in the 80th but Brenton De Leon sealed a comfortable win for Connection four minutes from time. Dexter Thornhill (65th) and Sloan Lesierre (80th) found the target for North East Stars as they registered their ninth win of the season.
