Parkites edge Malvern 7-5 in Colfire hockey
QUEEN’S PARK began their defence of Men’s Open Division title, in the Colfire Chinese Invitational Indoor Hockey Tournament, with a high-scoring 7-5 win over Malvern at the Chinese Association, St Ann’s on Saturday. The Govia clan led the way for the Parkites, with Nicholas Govia notching a hat-trick, brothers Luke and Raphael adding one apiece while Azad Ali netted twice.
Malvern, who trailed 5-2 at the halftime interval, were rewarded with three goals from Colin Byron while Wayne Legerton and Albert Marcano chipped in with one each. In the other men’s open fixture, Chinese inflicted a 7-1 trouncing of Paragon, with a hat-trick coming from the stick of Ryan Marchock while Jason Allan, Colin Boodoo, Lee Ron Tom Pack and Lee Youm Tom Pack getting one each. Kiel Murray got the consolation item for Paragon. Carib Magnolia showed that they would not be keen on relinquishing their Women’s Open Division crown after a convincing 7-2 win over Ventures. Ace national player Stacey Sui Butt, Gayle Ann Nieves and Candice De Freitas each netted twice with Nicole Bradshaw adding the other for the ‘Magnolias’ outfit, while C Govia got both goals for Ventures.
