Senior citizens suffer at PoSGH
THE EDITOR: Kindly allow me a space in Newsday to say how unfair it is that senior citizens like myself must suffer for drugs at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital. One must wait for hours to get simple medication which one’s life depends upon. If that isn’t enough, some time ago I had an emergency and had to rush to the casualty department, where it took two hours before I was attended to. Please tell me, is it fair for retired public servants like myself to suffer for our right to proper health care?
Also, another problem with the health service in this country is the attitude of some of the casualty staff in dealing with the public. It is quite disturbing. I am writing this open letter to the Minister of Health to look into the health care system of this country with a fine tooth comb and to make serious changes in our health care system before it is too late for many of our citizens. Many people cannot afford private medical care because of the cost. I am positive that it is not the will of the Government to go into the year 2020 without a proper health machine. After all it is said a healthy nation is a wealthy nation.
