Baboolal rejects UNC motion

President of the Senate, Dr Linda Baboolal, disallowed an Opposition motion to debate flooding in Central Trinidad, as Parliament re-opened Friday for the third session of the eighth Parliament. The UNC Senators asked that recent flooding, caused by the passing of Hurricane Ivan be debated as an urgent matter of public importance, but Baboolal disagreed. She suggested the Opposition instead raise the issue as a motion on the adjournment of the Upper House at its next sitting. The Senate next sits at 1.30 pm on Tuesday September 21. The formal opening of the Senate was a brief affair in an annex chamber of the Red House, after which Senators visited the main parliamentary chamber to hear the President’s address before returning to their annex to do resume business.
