Enough is enough, WICB!
THE EDITOR: As far back as I can remember, the WI cricket teams have had to win a match twice over before the victory was ours. This may sound as a joke, but over the years our players have been the subject of some dubious decisions in the sport called the “Gentleman’s Game.” Ms Editor, is it because we are a black team and these white umpires would like to keep us in our place for having learned to play their game better than them? But Ms Editor, my beef is not with these thieving officials, but with the WI Cricket Board in the first instance and the heads of government of the island states of the Caribbean in the second instance who, for far too long, have allowed this farce to continue without a whimper. Ms Editor, enough is enough!
Well, I have taken up the mantle to make a bold protest to the ICC through the WICB and the heads of government of the West Indies on behalf of the peoples of the Caribbean about the indecent treatment meted out to members of the present and past WI teams by unfair and dishonest officials. During the years we dominated the cricketing world, we were so strong that the unfairness that occurred helped the opposing teams very little.
But now that our team is weakened with the loss of our main strike bowlers and we are on a rebuilding mode, these deliberate faux pas by these officials seem to be a definite plot to keep the WI team at the bottom of the cricket ladder for as long as possible. What is worse Ms Editor, is the fact that local commentators and journalists have all forgotten these unfair practices of the officials and are now vilifying the captain and his team instead of calling on the ICC to do something right now to put an end to the behaviour of these officials who are hell bent on bringing the game into disrepute. No wonder the rest of the world has stayed so long in adopting this sport.
