Saints, Fatima start on victorious note
ST Mary’s College and Fatima were both victorious in their season openers yesterday as action continued in the North Zone of the Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL). The Saints, who are strong favourites to dethrone St Anthony’s as North Zone champs, enjoyed a 3-1 triumph over Mor-vant/Laventille at the St Mary’s Ground, St Clair. And, at the Fatima Ground, the hosts gave Tranquillity a rude awakening, as they cruise to a 3-1 win over the recently-promoted outfit. Meanwhile, both matches in the East Zone ended in drawn results.
At the El Dorado Ground, the “Blue Thunder” El Dorado were held to a 1-1 scoreline by debutants Valencia. Jamal Gay was on target for the hosts while Nicholas Dandrade got Valencia’s item. In the other East Zone matchup Hillview, with goals from Stefan George and Carlyle Mitchell, battled to a 2-2 tie against San Juan at Bourg Mulatresse. Down South, Mayaro pipped Vessigny 1-0 at the Mayaro Recreation Ground while Fyzabad and Moruga played to a 2-2 draw at Fyzabad. A full slate of matches in the North and South Zones will take place tomorrow.
