Nelson the hero as Coaching School cop Pepsi FA
ST CLAIR’S Coaching School is on course for an unprecedented double in the Warner’s Group of Companies-sponsored Tobago Football Association. The team, brainchild of current national coach Bertille St Clair, shut out Sidey’s 2-0 at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Bacolet, Tobago, on Saturday night to capture the Pepsi FA Cup and $12,000 winners’ prize money. Watched by a surprisingly huge crowd, following the chaos left behind by Hurricane Ivan, Rodney Nelson was the hero of the match. Nelson rifled in the first of a double in the 25th minute, and hardly had the cheers died when he banged in his second two minutes later, and the encounter was over as a contest. Sidey’s from the village of Speyside which suffered telling damage by the hurricane, were hoping to give villagers something to cheer about.
They mounted some spirited counter attacks in the second period but could fashion only one real chance at scoring. Coaching School, winners of the Premier League title since its inception three-years ago, were winning their first FA Cup. In the earlier match of the double-header programme, Mason Hall Police Youth Club, promoted to the Premier League only this season, whipped Biwater Stokelyvale 3-1 to take third position in the FA and a $1,000 prize. According to league official Kenny Alfred, only on Friday the matches were only confirmed. “We were pleasantly surprised at the crowd following the hurricane,” he said. Admission was $10.
