Social friction over Trinity Cross
THE EDITOR: The matter of the Highest National Award and its inference in that this is a Christian society and not a plural society is a serious one! We need an award that reflects neutrality so that we can all accept it and be proud of it. The cross is the international symbol of Christians, so much so that in heavily Muslim populated areas the Red Cross is replaced by the Red Crescent. Anyway, with this in mind when the Prime Minister was asked about the matter, he quickly referred to Panday’s tenure as Prime Minister and stated that he did nothing about it, therefore inferring why should he do something?
This “strainer watching grater” mentality has this country in the dog house! Every time something happens, the PNM is quick to refer to something the UNC did or did not do. The Trinity Cross needs to be changed! It adds to the division in this nation, and the failure of this Government to address this would further isolate the community they wish to woo, hence the creation of the Indian awards. But then again this is not a priority, mass social friction is a miniscule matter. And here is steups! No wonder the country is in such a mess these days!
