Headless corpse in Central identified

The headless, armless body found Sunday at Sumaria Trace in Charlieville, was identified yesterday as Laucancious John, 27, of Jack Street, Enterprise. Senior homicide officers told Newsday that clothing found close to the corpse, a shoe and a key were identified by relatives of the dead man. Relatives of John will today witness his post-mortem at the Forensic Science Centre. Head of Homicide, Snr Supt Dyo Mohammed, confirmed late yesterday the body was that of John. Crescentia John, the dead man’s mother, told police her son left home Friday night around 8 pm, saying he would be back later.

When he failed to return home, a search was initiated. On Sunday around 9 am, two villagers of Sumaria Trace were on their way to the Chaguanas Market, when they saw the mutilated body. A party of officers led by ASP John Millette, Insp Hubert Kirk, acting Sgt Ajith Persad and acting Cpl Balchan Salick went to the scene along with District Medical Officer Dr Ray Choudary. Relatives of the dead man were unable to give a motive for the gruesome murder. Investigations are continuing.
