Chaguanas demands better bus service

THE EDITOR: We, regular daily passengers of PTSC from Chaguanas to Port-of-Spain and back are appealing to Minister of Works, Mr Franklin Khan and Chairman of PTSC for a more reliable bus service. The present service that is being offered is nothing less than a disgrace. We are there at 6.15 am in Chaguanas and sometimes get on board a bus at 8 am. Further to this the bus sometimes “shuts down” en route and we are stranded on the roadside (proof of this is available). This is unfair as it costs us more to get to our destination. The situation at Chaguanas awaiting the arrival  of a bus during morning rush-hour is deplorable.

For passengers to stand in a car park under inhumane weather conditions, dressed for work, particularly female passengers is patheic. PTSC provides no form of security in Chaguanas to maintain order, ie there are some passengers that would go to the front of the line notwithstanding that there is a line of passengers who wait patiently for a bus. The same can be said on the journey from Port-of-Spain. On evenings, however, we see buses being sent regularly to San Fernando and Arima, yet we are made to suffer, one bus every hour. PTSC records would show a bus is dispatched, but it does not indicate it is an executive bus to transport 25 passengers. Is this fair? Hence the reason we the undersigned are coming together to demand a better service from PTSC.
