Champagne Wager showing form

CHAMPAGNE WAGER, not seen in a race since July, showed he is rounding into form for his chosen engagement on Saturday, Day 27 of the Arima Race Club season at Santa Rosa Park, Arima. The American-bred gelding stepped lively over 400 metres in a quick 24.77 seconds. And another to show some sparkle on the gallops course yesterday morning was Patti’s No Angel who had a handy run over 600 metres completed in 38.41 seconds. Royal Oak Derby candidates Private Affair and Melanie My Love took things easy in their preparations.

Private Affair had the speedy Bandikoot for company in a 600 metres run in 44.93 seconds. But Melanie My Love, prepared by astute Maniram “Boboy” Maharaj, was sent over 1800 metres and the filly easily clocked 2:04.22 seconds for the outing. Carefree looked in fine fettle in an easy run over 400 metres from the boxes completed in 27.77 seconds For the most part, trainers took things easy with their charges in preparation for some let-down gallops this morning as they get ready for Saturday’s nine-race programme.
