Harvard thump Moruga 16-0
HARVARD recorded the biggest margin of victory in the 2004 National Super League, a whopping 16-0 scoreline over bottom-placed Moruga at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo on Tuesday. Christon Freitas led the way for the St James-based squad with a beaver-trick, in the 68th, 73rd, 76th and 88th minutes, while Kendell Baptiste (ninth, 11th and 36th), Gabriel St John (76th, 81st and 84th) and Ahkeel Laurie (18th, 42nd and 43rd) all registered hat-tricks. Also finding their names on the scoresheets were Ricardo Aleong, who netted in the 31st and 57th minutes, and Damian Frazer in the 39th.
Another big winner on the day was Angostura 1976 FC Phoenix, who strolled past WASA Clean and White 6-0, with a pair from Dominique Kerr in the 47th and 85th minutes and one apiece from Kevin Keith (50th), Trevor Henry (64th), Kayode Legall (79th) and Curtis Trim (88th). The Phoenix-WASA clash was the second match of a double-header at Shaw Park, Scarborough, with Biwater Stokelyvale edging Medianet East San Juan United 2-1 in the earlier clash. Devon Leacock’s 13th minute strike was cancelled out by Brent Edwards in the 45th minute, but Michael Carrington netted the game-winner in the 74th.
Another match ending in a 2-1 result was the Superstar Rangers-Police encounter at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella, with ex-national Under-17 captain Josimar Belgrave (62nd) and Lorne Joseph (84th) on target for Rangers while Grayson Edwards (71st) struck for the lawmen. As expected, 2004 champs Joe Public walked away from their clash against Maraval Youth Academy with an additional three points, after a 3-0 win at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Tunapuna. Scorers for the “Eastern Lions” were Carlington Smith (11th), Nigel Hart (37th) and Wolrey Wolfe (89th). And dethroned champs L-Sporto Crab Connection needed an 87th minute goal from Kevin Baptiste to defeat Carib 3-2 at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima. And referee Neal Brizan were forced to call off the Caroni-Club Sando match after 34 minutes at Brechin Castle, Couva. Caroni were leading 5-0 at the time but the Southerners, who only fielded eight players, lost an additional two due to injuries and were unable to complete the match.
