Fatima whip Mucurapo in top of the table clash

FATIMA ended Mucurapo’s three-match win streak in the North Zone of the Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) with a 2-1 victory, in a top-of-the-table clash at the Fatima Ground yesterday. After Cyrano Glen, brother of national striker Cornell Glen, put Mucurapo ahead in the 38th, Emmanuel Joseph equalised for Fatima in the 71st before Stefan St Louis got the winner six minutes from time. While Mucurapo remained on top by virtue of a better goal difference over Fatima, defending champs St Anthony’s hammered Morvant/Laventille 7-1 with a hat-trick from Trinidad and Tobago Under-17 striker Lester Peltier and one each from national Under-20 midfielder Kevon Neaves, Yohance Marshall, Jamal Wiggins and Kareem Freitas.

A double from Aldo Hope and one-apiece from Kashif Clarke and TT U-17 forward Kyle McIvor gave St Mary’s a 4-0 triumph over Tranquility at the CIC Ground. Malick, with strikes from TT Under-17 midfielder Keron Ross (46th), Kerry Victor (67th) and veteran striker Hayden Tinto (80th) gave them a come-from-behind 3-1 win over QRC at the Royalians Ground. Delano Pierre had earlier put the hosts ahead in the 34th. Vessigny maintained their spot atop the South Zone after a 2-0 whipping of Fyzabad at the Mahaica Oval. Kyle Williams (31st) and Kareem Balthazar (49th penalty) were the goal-getters for Vessigny.

At the Mayaro Recreation Ground, hosts Mayaro were held to a goalless draw by Princes Town while, in the first match of a doubleheader at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella, Naparima earned a 1-0 win over Moruga. Substitute Kezi Lara got the winner in the 54th minute, shooting past Moruga’s goalkeeper Alexi Julien from close range. St Benedict’s registered their first victory of the season, 3-1 over Pleasantville in the other match at Marabella. Keron Smith capitalised on a goalmouth scramble to score after 16 minutes of play, with Kendall Penny doubling the lead in the 29th, latching on to a through ball from Akeil Belfon and shooting past keeper Travis Smart. Pleasantville pulled back one in the 40th, with Jaron Roberts drilling his shot past Kareem Gray but the La Romain lads sealed the win in second half stoppage time through Arvid Applewhite.

In another top-of-the-table encounter in the East Zone, St Augustine remained atop the standings with a 3-2 victory over hosts El Dorado. Trevel Mansano netted a double for the “Green Machine” while captain and national U-17 midfielder Shastri Spencer got the other item; with the “Blue Thunder” El Dorado rewarded with an own goal and a strike from Lionel St Hillaire. The pair of Marlon White and Marlon St Louis were again on target as St George’s eased past Valencia 2-0 at the Sangre Grande Recreation Ground; Michael Hospedales’ second half goal gave “The Dial Dynamos” Arima a 1-0 triumph over Hillview at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Tunapuna while San Juan cruised past Barataria 3-0.

Chaguanas Senior opened their Central Zone campaign with a 5-3 win over Union Claxton Bay at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva. An own goal by Ryan Murraine (10th), and further strikes from Printon Seales (27th), Ross Simon (48th), Justin Augustus (50th) and Akim Victor (65th) gave Chaguanas full points while Akim Garcia (55th), Nigel Gayasingh (62nd) and Murraine (72nd) were on the scoresheet for Claxton Bay. Carapichaima strolled to a 4-0 victory over hosts Tabaquite courtesy of a double from David Cornwall and one each from Brent De Verteuil and Keron Smith.
