Pantin pleads to Bounty Killer, Elephant Man: Please behave!
“When they told me Bounty Killer will be on the show I say who? Well don’t associate me with that at all and then I said to myself, thou shall not judge.” Those were the opening words of Clive Pantin during the launch of the free concert planned for October 31, in aid of Hurricane Ivan affected islands, and as well, FEEL’s Children’s Village. Speaking at the launch held on Friday at the Carib Brewery Executive Box at the Oval, Pantin made a stirring plea to all the artistes who would be performing at the concert, particularly Bounty Killer and Elephant Man to perform with dignity.
He said: “I want to make an appeal to Bounty Killer and Elephant Man and whichever artiste will be performing (at the concert). You see your fame? You see your popularity? That did not come from you. God gave you that talent and when you misuse that talent, so help me, you’re going to lose it.” Pantin further pleaded with the artistes to perform with dignity and class given the minds of the youth today, especially the 44 abandoned and abused children who will be occupying the new Children’s Village in San Chiquito by Christmas. He said: “Now those are the children that will be looking at Bounty Killers and Elephant Men and all our artistes, to see how they can best imitate them because these people are popular. So we must give them something wholesome to hold on to and I am just begging our artistes to whom God gave a special talent to be able to go into any church or mosque, or any place you want, of worship, and be able to sing properly.”
He emotionally added: “Let me see them going to the Cathedral and sing like that nah, and start using all kind of words that I never knew existed. We have such wonderful artistes in the Caribbean, they could be such wonderful examples of our young people but we are losing our young generation because all of them want to be the popular artiste that they see on the show. Let them hold on to the things that are beautiful and that are uplifting because we are losing our children. And if our artistes cannot give them the examples, we’re dead.” The concert is being promoted by Roy Maharaj of Tristar Promotions in association with sponsors Stag. Though it is a free concert, patrons are asked to walk with whatever financial contribution they would like to make towards relief funds for the hurricane victims and the children’s home.
