Cops seize $7M in ganja

A SEVEN million dollar marijuana haul, comprising two shipments believed to be from Colombia, was seized by police Saturday evening. The drug bust was made in Penal during an extensive exercise in the south-western district. A police team from the Organised Crime and Narcotics Unit and Guard and Emergency Branch seized 16 bags of compressed marijuana.

Detained in connection with the marijuana haul were a 33-year-old Colombian national living in Venezuela and two locals  —   a 27-year-old Barrackpore man and a 42-year-old Penal businessman. During the same exercise, a 38-year-old American was also arrested. He was allegedly held with one kilogramme of “pure” cocaine, valued $400,000. The exercise was headed by ASP Franklin and Superintendent Raymond Greg. Investigations are continuing.
