Young Hearts take League Cup, cash
SHOE Locker Young Hearts, fourth from bottom of the Eastern Football Association League table, are the new holders of the Emerald Apartments and Plaza League Cup. The Young Hearts were outplayed by BM Spurs for most of Saturday’s final at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Dr Joao Havelange Stadium, Macoya, Tunapuna. The match was watched by CONCACAF president Jack Warner and Emerald Apartments and Plaza Plaza CEO Daryll Warner.
They kept plugging away and were rewarded with the only goal of the match from Keston Peruza in the 76th minute. The Spurs have only themselves to blame for not taking home the cup, gold medals and $5,000 prize money, as they missed several gilt-edged chances to score. Instead they watched Young Hearts skipper Damian Willison proudly accept the cup from Darryl Warner, and had to settle for the runners-up prize of $3,000 and silver medals.
League action for the Arthur “Jap” Brown Memorial Trophy resumes today with Falcon Crest holding a three-point lead over WASA Clean and White and Coast Guard, playing their first season in the EFA. Fixtures: TSTT vs Young Hearts, at Boundary Road, San Juan; BM Spurs vs East/West Coaching School, at San Juan Secondary School ground; WASA Clean & White vs Falcon Crest, at WASA ground, St Joseph; Athletico Sports Institute vs HCL Strikers, at Aranguez Savannah; Malta Carib Alcons vs Joe Public, at St Joseph Recreation ground.
