Green Machine crush Valencia
ST AUGUSTINE maintained their top spot atop the East Zone of the Secondary Schools Football League after a crushing 6-0 whipping of Valencia yesterday. Trinidad and Tobagol Under-17 playmaker Shastri Spencer continued his sizzling form this season with a double, with a pair from Sherlan Sorillo and one apiece from Lorenzo King and Trevel Mansano.
The “Green Machine” hold a three-point advantage over San Juan, who brushed aside St George’s 3-1 at the St George’s Ground, Barataria.
The “Dial Dynamos” Arima needed a strike from Sheldon Augustine to edge “Blue Thunder” El Dorado 1-0 at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima, while Hillview crushed Barataria 7-2 at the Marvin Lee Stadium, with a beaver-trick from Carlisle Mitchell, two from Keon Lyons and another from Kevin Lewis. Mucurapo remained atop the standings in the North Zone with a 2-0 victory over Malick at the St Anthony’s Ground, Westmoorings. The “Westmoorings Tigers” were easy 2-0 winners against St Mary’s at the CIC Ground, St Clair. Fatima stayed in third spot despite a 1-1 draw at home to Morvant/Laventille while QRC continued their inconsistent ways, this time with a 2-1 home win over cellar-placed Tranquillity.
Naparima climbed to the top of the South Zone after a 2-0 triumph away to Fyzabad. Overnight leaders Vessigny relinquished the top spot after they went under 1-0 to Pleasantville at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella. Princes Town moved to third following a 2-0 whipping at home to St Benedict’s. And Mayaro got the better of Moruga by a 3-1 margin at Moruga. Presentation Chaguanas earned their second straight win in the Central Zone, 6-0 over Union Claxton Bay with a hat-trick by Deon Lewis, two from Anselm Allert and one from Anthony O’Garro. Tabaquite defeated Chaguanas by a similar margin at Chaguanas.
