Kalifa to start at El Dorado
Kalifa Logan will be starting secondary school very soon... not only will she be starting school, but it will be the school of her choice — El Dorado Secondary. For more than a week, TT followed the plight of the 12-year-old Rastafarian girl, a story that was initially highlighted by Newsday. When Newsday contacted the Ministry of Education, communications officer Mervyn Crichlow yesterday said the situation was the same since last Saturday’s media release.
He reiterated that Kalifa had been offered a space in a school and “she is registering today (yesterday).” When asked about which school Kalifa had been placed in, Crichlow remained tight-lipped, saying only that he wanted it to be “official” before he divulged the information. However, sources told Newsday that Kalifa was given a choice of three schools to which she would be able to attend — Bishop’s Anstey High School (East), Tranquillity Government Secondary, or El Dorado Secondary. Kalifa opted to register at El Dorado Secondary School.
Although St Charles’ High School still has some of Kalifa’s personal documents, she was still able to successfully complete the registration process. When Newsday visited El Dorado Secondary School yesterday in an attempt to speak with the school principal, we were met with a circular at the guard booth, addressed to “Visiting media personnel” from principal II Colin Alexander, which stated, “We prefer not to have our school featured in the news at this time.” The notice stated that all requests for information should be directed to communications officers at the Ministry of Education.
