Top cop: New security arrangements for Sir Ellis

Police have confirmed that new security arrangements have been put in place for former President Sir Ellis Clarke, but remained tight-lipped on what exactly they are. Commissioner of Police, Trevor Paul said, “While I understand the job of the newspapers is to provide information, I do not think it is prudent to facilitate the sale of newspapers by revealing the security arrangements made for Sir Ellis. That is a matter of national security.” Officers at the St Clair Police Station, responsible for the Fairways area in Maraval where the former President’s home is located, also confirmed new arrangements and increased patrols in the area.

Sir Ellis was mugged, robbed and injured by a group of men on Saturday evening as he was about to leave his Pine Villas apartments at Fairways on his way to a book launch at UWI. Sir Ellis was carded to give the feature address. His car was stolen, but was later recovered in Long Circular. No one has been arrested. In an unrelated matter, officers of the Western Division recovered six stolen cars on Sunday. Investigations are continuing and arrests are expected soon in both matters.
