Abducted sisters found in church

CAP-DE-VILLE sisters Onessa and Onilla Anthony were found yesterday in a Baptist church in New Village, Point Fortin, a day after they were reportedly abducted. Police have since held a 50-year-old man who was expected to be charged last night for a number of offences, including abduction and false imprisonment. According to police sources, around 10 am, detectives attached to Siparia and Point Fortin Police Stations, acting on information, executed a search warrant at the church and found the sisters, ages nine and 11 respectively, in an adjoining shed with the suspect. The victims were taken to the Point Fortin District Hospital where they were both medically examined and treated, while the suspect was arrested.


When Newsday visited the Anthony’s Main Road, Cap-De- Ville home yesterday, no one was at home. the girls and their mother Mary and step-father Terrence Haynes, were at the Point Fortin Police Station being interviewed. Senior police officers reportedly stated they wished members of the media took no pictures or interviewed the victims and their parents, since the case was at a “delicate stage.” Ezra Anthony, 24, the eldest sister of the vicitms, told Newsday she was “shaken up” by the situation and hoped justice would be done. “Right now, I am lost for words, I am just shaken and nervous about the whole incident and I pray to God that the suspect is severely dealt with. I do not know what I will do when the whole truth comes out pertaining to exactly what took place with that man and my two sisters.”


When asked for a comment step-father, Haynes, replied “I can’t really say anything right about now, because I am in and out of the statement room, where the girls and their mother are being interviewed and really and truly, I don’t know anything much. It was reported that around 4 pm on Saturday, the mother allowed her two daughters to go for ice cream at a nearby park in Point Fortin with a close friend. When her children were not brought home the same day a search was conducted and the matter reported to the police. the girls were spotted, the following day in a “PH’” taxi, driven by the suspect at Quarry Village. Investigations are continuing.
