Fears of UNC supporters

THE EDITOR: A letter to the editor in your newspaper of September 21 has prompted me to make this contribution regarding the recent appointment to a top position in the UNC. I have to agree with the sentiments of the writer from Chaguanas who expressed what I believe to be the fears of many supporters of the opposition. Many persons are at a loss to understand the reason behind this particular selection when one looks at the critical situation the party faces regarding credibility.

The NACTA poll is about to display its accuracy once again, if the UNC does not do some real house cleaning and not just some shuffling of the same pack of persons who have misbehaved in public office. Like the writer from Chaguanas, I believe that it is possible to make some gains if the party comes clean. It is not too late to rescind an unfortunate appointment, in fact if that is done, it may send the right signal to the troops who are in need of a leadership which responds to its base support. It is a bit worrying that the appointment could be made at all. It smacks of arrogance and disrespect for the masses.
